China Cycle 2015
China Cycle 2015 was the 25th China International Bicycle and Motor Fair that took place this May. Hosted at the Shanghai National Convention Center, the four day event showcased the latest offerings from both local and international companies. With the attendance of prestigious brands such as Shimano Cycling, Giant Bicycles, Fuji Bikes, DT Swiss, SRAM, Mavic, and BH Bikes there was plenty to see at the event. While we did not have a booth this year, the Wistio team made our presence known by talking with industry stakeholders and customers alike.
A Majority Attendance from Local Companies
Demonstrating the strong presence of bicycle and component manufacturing in the local market, 70 per cent of the businesses represented at China Cycle 2015 were local Chinese companies. Local businesses displayed everything from complete bicycles, to frames, forks, tires and an entire assortment of other bicycle related components.
Traditionally popular with the locals, Chinese brand Phoenix presented their newest bicycle designs. Started in the 1960s, the Phoenix name holds great sentimental value with the locals. It is reported that Phoenix Bicycles were once given to foreign heads of state as national gifts.
An International Presence at China Cycle 2015
As international contenders aim to break into and strengthen their presence in the Chinese market, many big names in the bicycle world attended China Cycle 2015. Booths from a range of international companies showcased their upcoming designs in bicycles, components and accessories. Several international bicycle associations were also present at the fair, showing the increasing popularity of cycling in a global market.
Canadian cycling company Argon 18 clearly wanted to make an impression at the event, displaying several models of their road bikes. The Bora-Argon 18 professional German cycling team rides the Argon 18 bicycles at many international events including le Tour de France. The company currently has several local Chinese distributors.
Olympic cycling champion Miguel Martinez was invited to attend China Cycle 2015. An increasing number of professional athletes are attending the event each year, putting the fair on the map.
The Popularity of Tubeless Valves
Despite the lack of tubeless valve manufacturers at the fair, it was obvious that tubeless set up is becoming increasingly popular, with most MTB bicycles utilizing the tubeless valve system. An increasing number of road bikes were using tubeless valves during the event too.
While the aesthetics of the bicycles themselves were more than enough to please the eye, it wouldn’t be an expo without some other attractions to catch everyone’s attention.
China Cycle 2015 was a productive meeting of local and international stakeholders in the increasingly popular bicycle industry. With our sites set high on becoming the world’s number one supplier of tubeless valves, Wistio hope to see you at our booth at China Cycle 2016.
